David ETTERSHANK (Western Metropolitan):

My question is for the Minster for Roads and Road Safety. My constituent lives in Manor Lakes and spends up to 40 minutes of their daily commute trying to get to the freeway via Ballan, Bolton and Heaths roads. This stretch is one lane in each direction and cannot handle the existing traffic, let alone accommodate the area’s expected growth.

The Werribee growth corridor is one of the fastest growing in the country, and the population of Manor Lakes alone is set to double in the next 20 years.

As the minister is aware, the west is desperate to be heard and actioned. So my constituent asks: can the minister provide any updates on plans to widen the Ballan, Bolton and Heaths road corridor between Manor Lakes and Tarneit Road?

I thank the Member for Western Metropolitan Region for his question about the Ballan, Bolton and Heaths Road corridors in the City of Wyndham.

In October 2022, the Victorian Government announced $120 million in funding for the upgrade to the Ballan Road/McGrath Road and Greens Road intersection. The upgrade will replace the current roundabout with traffic signals, providing for safer and efficient movements along this section of Ballan Road. The upgrade will also deliver improved walking paths to improve connectivity and safety for all road users.

Ultimately the Ballan Road corridor will form a six-lane arterial road between Manor Lakes Boulevard and the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road. While land has been reserved for the ultimate road corridor, further investigations are required by the Department of Transport and Planning to support further investment in the Ballan Road Corridor. These upgrades will support further growth in areas such as Manor Lakes and other precincts along the corridor

Additionally, the Allan Labor Government has committed funding to deliver the Ison Road overpass and extension and an upgrade to the Werribee Main Road Interchange. This will create an additional link to the Wyndham growth area from the Princes Freeway. Completion of this link will reduce the reliance on Ballan, Bolton and Heaths Road corridors into the future by providing a high-quality alternative freeway connection.
