David ETTERSHANK (Western Metropolitan) (14:10):

My constituency question is directed to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. My constituent lives on the Mambourin estate in Wyndham Vale and is very concerned about the total lack of lighting on the overpass on Black Forest Road.

There is in fact zero lighting. The overpass is one of the two main entry points to the estate, and the fact that it is pitch black at night makes it dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists alike, but with an added element of creepiness for pedestrians.

So my constituent asks: when will the minister provide urgent funding to install lighting on the overpass?

Hon. Melissa Horne MP
(Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Minister for Local Government, Minister for Ports and Freight, Minister for Roads and Road Safety)

I thank the Member for Western Metropolitan Region for his question and acknowledge his constituent’s concerns about safety.

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) advises that Black Forest Road is a local road managed by Wyndham City Council. Council is responsible for assessing and implementing street lighting where it is warranted.

I have asked DTP to raise this matter with Wyndham City Council for its consideration.
