Legislative Council of Victoria, Melbourne

David ETTERSHANK (Western Metropolitan Region):

My constituency question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. My constituent lives in Burnside Heights and commutes to work via Taylors Road and Green Gully Road. Significant growth in the area is adding to traffic congestion and long delays, making their weekday commute a nightmare.

In particular the stretch of Taylors Road between Bluestone Walk and Kings Road is becoming a dangerous bottleneck, with only one lane in each direction.

A major upgrade is needed to meet community and road user expectations, so my constituent asks: will the Victorian government provide funding to duplicate this stretch of Taylors Road to alleviate congestion as well as provide additional funding to support associated pedestrian and off-road bicycle infrastructure for this increasingly significant key arterial road?

I thank the Member for the Western Metropolitan Region for the question on behalf of his constituent. I recognise the rapid population growth is placing increasing pressure on the transport network.

I have asked the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) to consider your constituent’s feedback as part of its continual review of the road network.

Investigations required to develop a proposal for the future duplication of Taylors Road between Bluestone Walk and Kings Road will be considered in the context of other transport improvement projects across the state.
