Parliament of Victoria | Legislative Council | Constituency Questions
25 August, 2026
David ETTERSHANK (Western Metropolitan Region):
My question is to the Minister for Health. My constituent is a sexual and reproductive health practitioner concerned about parties like One Nation advocating for limits on late-term abortions.
The South Australian Parliament recently debated a bill to restrict late-term abortions, which account for less than 1 per cent of all abortions. My constituent says that debating these matters alone is harmful, as it undermines clinical decision-making between a patient and their doctor.
GenWest’s Action for Equity 2024–2030 identifies that groups and communities in Melbourne’s west experience poorer sexual and reproductive health outcomes compared to the population as a whole.
My constituent asks what the government is doing to strengthen and enhance abortion access in the Western Metropolitan Region and to address the threat to reproductive rights posed by One Nation and other conservative parties.
