Why does the West always get less? You deserve better.
As Member for Western Metropolitan Region for the Legalise Cannabis Party, I’ve fought for much more than just Cannabis reform.
Since I was elected in 2022, I’ve addressed a diverse range of issues because I knew it was important to be more than a single-issue MP. I’ve done this by listening to the needs of communities across the West.
As we reach the end of this Parliament, I want to share some of the things we’ve fought for over the last four years.
Our advocacy for the West:
- We’ve campaigned strongly for bus network reform, and the government has invested $162 million for new and extended bus routes for growing communities across the Western Metropolitan Region, including Riverwalk, King’s Leigh, Mt Atkinson, Thornhill Park and Mystique estates. We still have a long way to go, but it’s a start.
- We secured critical funding for WestJustice’s Youth Crime Prevention and Early Intervention Project, helping vulnerable young people stay out of the criminal justice system.
- We’ve supported the community in organising the campaign against data centre development and pressured the government to release the Sustainable Data Centre Action Plan, which it has now done.
- We helped the township of Little River push back against the construction of an inappropriate, environmentally destructive rail-freight terminal nearby.
- We pressured the government to suspend the Kealba tip licence after residents endured its appalling odour for six years.
- We secured a safer pedestrian crossing for Blackshaws Road in Altona North — after I raised residents’ concerns of incidents and near misses in Parliament.
- We pressured the government into taking action for a dangerous intersection at Leakes Road/Western Highway interchange.
- We secured a state government commitment of $170 million to declare and duplicate Taylors Road between Kings Road and Kurung Drive.
- We launched an inquiry into waste-to-energy infrastructure in response to communities’ concerns around the health and environmental risks posed by proposed incinerators. The government has recently announced there will be a 2-km buffer between incinerators and homes.
We’ve planted the seeds of cannabis reform
- We’ve reformed driving laws for medicinal cannabis consumers, allowing courts to choose not to automatically suspend their licence after a positive roadside THC test.
- Our plan for a staged approach to cannabis legalisation. Decriminalise > Socialise > Legalise
- Decriminalise Cannabis possession and home grow NOW!
- 4,000 Victorians are arrested every year for simple possession of cannabis. What a waste.
- Develop a two stream legal cannabis market: one medical and one adult use.
- With or without a script, let’s ensure that good quality, affordable cannabis is readily available.
- Protect the rights of medicinal cannabis patients to be free from stigma and discrimination.
- No one should face discrimination for taking a prescribed medicine.
I won’t be on the ballot in the upcoming state election, but while I’m stepping away from paid employment as a trouble maker, I assure you that I won’t stop fighting for communities. I look forward to joining you.
